{"id":78,"date":"2009-08-04T19:55:21","date_gmt":"2009-08-05T00:55:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.annakatedonovan.com\/?p=78"},"modified":"2009-08-04T20:54:44","modified_gmt":"2009-08-05T01:54:44","slug":"packing-the-kitchen-yuck","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/annakatedonovan.com\/?p=78","title":{"rendered":"packing the kitchen&#8230;..yuck"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today I spent a large portion of the day packing my kitchen to move.\u00a0 I HATE packing the kitchen or anything else that requires individual wrapping.\u00a0 It is tedious, time consuming and it makes my head and back hurt.\u00a0 Blech.<\/p>\n<p>Not only am I packing but I am also clearing out and sorting.\u00a0 The clearing out is absolutely necessary and once it is done I always feel really good.\u00a0 That being said, sometimes it is easier to just put stuff in a box that you <em>know<\/em> you don&#8217;t need and pretend you don&#8217;t realize what you&#8217;re doing.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve done that before.\u00a0 I always regret it because then you realize that your house is full of crap.\u00a0 Junk.\u00a0 Things that no longer hold any value to you.\u00a0 Things that spend their existence taking up space.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve never even come close to being a hoarder but I have an idea of how it starts.\u00a0 You rationalize the &#8220;need&#8221; to keep something forever even though you&#8217;ll never use it.\u00a0 Then you come with a reason to keep the item next to the first item.\u00a0 Before you know it, you&#8217;re a hoarder and you end up on a Dr. Phil special.\u00a0 Okay, I&#8217;ll admit it, I&#8217;m being dramatic.\u00a0 But it has to start somewhere, right?<\/p>\n<p>The other objective in our packing is sorting.\u00a0 We need to sort the things we absolutely must have to live and the things we can do without for a couple of months.\u00a0 To understand this, I need to provide a little background&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>Today was my husband&#8217;s last day of college.\u00a0 For the second time.\u00a0 The first time was 15 years ago.\u00a0 He entered college right after high school.\u00a0 Three years later he was in a difficult personal situation and got a job offer with a good salary.\u00a0 Like any twenty-something would, he took the job and never got his degree.\u00a0 Fifteen years later his VP job ended unexpectedly and we got the opportunity for him to come back to school and finish that final year of college.\u00a0 He has done extremely well despite being the &#8220;old man on campus&#8221;
