{"id":5,"date":"2009-07-12T21:09:30","date_gmt":"2009-07-13T02:09:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.annakatedonovan.com\/?p=5"},"modified":"2009-07-12T21:13:12","modified_gmt":"2009-07-13T02:13:12","slug":"potty-purgatory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/annakatedonovan.com\/?p=5","title":{"rendered":"potty purgatory"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I am in potty purgatory.\u00a0 Trapped somewhere between diapers and big girl underwear.\u00a0 This, of course, applies to my youngest daughter Laura.\u00a0 She will be 3 in a few months.\u00a0 My first 2 successful potty training journeys were almost identical.\u00a0 There were constant accidents the first day followed by fewer and fewer accidents until the girls were completely trained.\u00a0 We talked about the potty, used all the right words, sang and danced over every little &#8220;accomplishment&#8221;.\u00a0 It took less than a week.\u00a0 No problem.<\/p>\n<p>This third little girl, however, is different.\u00a0 She does <em>all<\/em> things according to her own personal calendar despite what her father and I think.\u00a0 Week before last, I decided that it was time to potty train.\u00a0 Laura had shown all the signs of being ready.\u00a0 Plus, I had a block of 4 days during which I didn&#8217;t have to leave the house.\u00a0 So, last Friday we pulled out the potty seat, put on the panties (I am not in favor of Pull-Up type undies so we went straight for the big girl variety) and started happily down the trail to full potty awareness!\u00a0 I am the first to admit that the first day was not going well.\u00a0 I had washed sheets on every bed by 2:30.\u00a0 Then Robert had one of those genius moments of parenting and said &#8220;Hey, don&#8217;t we still have that little potty somewhere in the garage?&#8221;\u00a0 Within 2 hours of cleaning off the little potty and setting it up in the bathroom, Laura had not only tee-tee&#8217;d (sic?) in it half a dozen times, she had also pooped.\u00a0 We had hit solid gold!!\u00a0 She went accident free for FIVE WHOLE DAYS!!\u00a0 She went at home, at summer camp and at our next door neighbors.\u00a0 Of course I got cocky.\u00a0 I told everyone.\u00a0 We sang and danced about our big girl and it was fabulous.\u00a0 Until&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>Day 6:\u00a0 Laura decides she likes diapers again.\u00a0 For 4 days now, we have had tantrums about sitting on the potty.\u00a0 She needs to go but doesn&#8217;t want to use her potty&#8230;or the big potty.\u00a0 She doesn&#8217;t want to use it in the bathroom, hallway, kitchen, living room, outside patio or van.\u00a0 She says that going on the floor is gross&#8230;but she does it anyway.\u00a0 We are stymied.<\/p>\n<p>Robert and I continue to cheerlead and sing and dance and we are beginning to see small glipmses of our once perfectly potty trained little girl. I have been a mom long enough to know that with time, this too shall pass.\u00a0 Again I am reminded that I am lacking about a fourth of the patience that this job requires.
