{"id":256,"date":"2010-01-08T21:56:33","date_gmt":"2010-01-09T02:56:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.annakatedonovan.com\/?p=256"},"modified":"2010-01-08T22:00:31","modified_gmt":"2010-01-09T03:00:31","slug":"we-are-the-champions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/annakatedonovan.com\/?p=256","title":{"rendered":"we are the champions&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yes, my friends, as most of you now know, my beloved University of Alabama Crimson Tide stomped Texas in a <a href=\"http:\/\/scores.espn.go.com\/ncf\/recap?gameId=300070333\">37-21<\/a> victory to win the BCS National Championship last night!\u00a0 Woo hoo!<\/p>\n<p>I finally turned off the television after the game a little after midnight and went to bed.\u00a0 Forty five minutes later I was still awake &#8211; too excited about the win to sleep.<\/p>\n<p>In my usual fashion, I got the girls off to school this morning and began to question my feelings from the night before.\u00a0 Why did a football game keep me awake into the wee hours of the morning?\u00a0 Why do I care so much about this team?\u00a0 Why do I get so excited about football?\u00a0 I couldn&#8217;t throw a football to the other side of my yard if you paid me.\u00a0 What gives?<\/p>\n<p>The answer requires a quick trip back to high school so indulge me, if you please.\u00a0 I went to a very small high school.\u00a0 There were 48 students in my graduating class.\u00a0 We did not have a football team.\u00a0 We had basketball, volleyball, track, soccer, tennis, baseball, etc&#8230;.but no football.\u00a0 My parents are not big football fans and even though I went to a couple of games in my youth, we were not a family who watched football or cared much about what was going on in the sport.<\/p>\n<p>Then I went to college at Alabama.\u00a0 My first year, I got student tickets and went to the first football game by myself.\u00a0 From the moment the team came on the field and I heard the roar of the crowd for the first time, I was hooked.\u00a0 It was the coolest thing I had ever experienced.\u00a0 I had to know everything about what was going on.\u00a0 I was completely lost in the excitement of the crowd.\u00a0 It was intoxicating.\u00a0 Every home game, I was early to the stadium and late to leave &#8211;
